Hyundai, LG Energy Solution to Establish Indonesia's First EV Battery Plant in 2024

In a significant move towards accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia, Hyundai Motor Company and LG Energy Solution have announced their collaboration to build the country's first electric vehicle (EV) battery plant. This joint venture is a testament to the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions and Indonesia's commitment to becoming a hub for EV production in the region.

The battery plant, scheduled to commence operations in 2024, will be strategically located in Karawang, West Java, and will play a pivotal role in supporting Hyundai's ambitious EV production plans for Indonesia. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 10 gigawatt hours (GWh), which is sufficient to power approximately 150,000 electric vehicles.

Hyundai and LG Energy Solution, a global leader in EV battery technology, will leverage their combined expertise to establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. The plant will employ advanced production processes and utilize cutting-edge technologies to produce high-performance batteries that meet the rigorous standards of the automotive industry.

The establishment of the EV battery plant in Indonesia aligns with the government's vision to transition towards a greener and more sustainable transportation system. The country has set ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting the adoption of electric vehicles. The battery plant will play a crucial role in enabling the widespread availability of EVs in Indonesia, making them more accessible to consumers and businesses alike.

Moreover, the joint venture between Hyundai and LG Energy Solution is expected to generate significant economic benefits for Indonesia. The construction and operation of the battery plant will create thousands of new jobs, boost local industries, and stimulate technological advancements in the EV sector.

Hyundai's commitment to Indonesia goes beyond the establishment of the EV battery plant. The company has been actively investing in the country for over two decades and has established a comprehensive automotive ecosystem that includes production facilities, research and development centers, and a network of dealerships.

The upcoming EV battery plant will complement Hyundai's existing operations in Indonesia and strengthen its position as a leading player in the country's automotive industry. The company plans to leverage the plant's capacity to supply batteries not only for its own EV models but also for other automakers operating in Indonesia.

The partnership between Hyundai and LG Energy Solution is a significant milestone in Indonesia's pursuit of becoming a major hub for EV production. The battery plant will serve as a catalyst for the development of a robust EV ecosystem in the country and contribute to the global transition towards sustainable transportation.
